From Fairytale to Canvas: Active Digital Storytelling Workshop for Preschool & Primary
A creative drama workshop where fairytale characters are paired with classroom objects and brought to life through children’s bodily movements.

“The dolphins swam close to the shore today! Let’s wave our blue objects to paint ocean waves for them, and lift our yellow objects to light up the sky!”
Scenario & Workshop Overview
Developed through workshops at ITU Kindergarten and early childhood centers, children don’t just listen to a fairytale—they turn a yellow block into the sun and a blue scarf into the sea, stepping in front of the camera to paint and act out each scene together.
Step-by-Step Story & Workshop Flow
1. Story Circle & Object Picking (10 min)
The teacher introduces the fairytale of the day. Red, green, blue, and yellow classroom toys are assigned to 4 characters or natural elements in the story.
2. Scene-by-Scene Active Dramatization (15 min)
As each part of the story unfolds, small groups step up and move their colored objects in the air—making leaves swirl or fish swim across the classroom screen.
3. Co-Creating the Story Ending (10 min)
Children decide how the fairytale should end, selecting new patterns and animations to improvise the final scene together.
