Story Spark (Opening Prompt for Children)

“Let’s turn the blue sofa pillow into a dolphin, the red apple into a ladybug, and the yellow cup into a shooting star! Who can jump high enough to paint the stars across the sky?”

Scenario & Workshop Overview

Rooted in MONNOM’s FabLearn Europe research paper “The Magic Mode of Everyday Objects,” children gather red, green, blue, and yellow items from around the house. As they move and dance across the living room holding their objects, they paint a living storybook world on screen.

Step-by-Step Story & Workshop Flow

1. Living Room Color Treasure Hunt (5 min)

Children go on a quick treasure hunt around the room to find 4 safe everyday objects in blue, red, green, and yellow.

2. Matching Colors to Story Patterns (2 min)

Toggle on “Color Tracking” in the top bar and assign each color to a favorite story pattern (e.g., blue → dolphin, green → tree).

3. Stand Up & Paint the Story! (15 min)

Place the tablet or laptop on a table, step back into the room, and move the colored objects through the air to paint the scene together.

Pedagogical & Creative Outcomes

  • Replacing sedentary screen posture with full-body physical movement at home
  • Sparking divergent thinking by reimagining ordinary household items as story characters
  • Joyful, non-competitive co-creation time for parents and siblings
